Founded in 2007, York Montessori School opened its doors to 6 trusting families. Within 6 months of operation, YMS was at its full licensed capacity of 31 children. In 2008, YMS added a new class increasing the licensed capacity to 57 children and had reached maximum enrolment by the start of the academic year. YMS was welcomed in the community as a small school and most new registrations come by referral. Our loving teachers provide a nurturing yet academic experience for each individual child. York Montessori School provides children with an excellent Montessori education while providing exceptional childcare. York Montessori School is a licensed establishment and a school that is proudly accredited by the CCMA (Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators). We practice pure Montessori philosophy and employ highly educated and accredited Montessori teachers who have had their training at a MACTE accredited or AMI teacher-training programme. We are open year round and facilitate child directed programming in a safe, clean and wholesome environment. The school operates between the hours of 7:00am to 6:00pm and is open year round. York Montessori School is licensed by the ministry of Child and Youth Services under the Day Nursery Act. We hold a license issued by the ministry and are subject to regular inspections by them. We are also required to comply with Day Nursery Standards relating to our daily operations, facilities and record keeping. Among other items all staff members are subject to regular background checks and must have up to date CPR and first aid training. YMS accommodates two age groups. A toddler group which consists of children aged 16 months to 2.5 years and a preschool group, better known as Casa, which consists of children aged 2.5 to 6 years old. York Montessori School has a very close group of families and is very involved in the community. Parent teacher meetings, progress reports, curriculum nights, Montessori education evenings as well as “watch me work” workshops are conducted throughout the year. We play an active role in our community and acknowledge and celebrate one another’s cultures and beliefs. YMS is dedicated to keeping a close relationship with parents.
