One and two week overnight camps providing a true wilderness adventure! Weeks are jam packed with exploration, fun, awareness games, survival skills, and a depth of understanding of the natural world. Campers build competence and confidence through an amazing week learning and living the ways of the wild! No rush, no schedule, all fun and adventure! Program Description: (Formerly known as our Home School Programs) The P.I.N.E. Project offers nature based programs that provide long-term mentoring experiences for children and youth in their home environment. These programs are almost entirely spent outside, only using indoor space for the most inclement weather, or for specific projects. There’s no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing! A growing body of research is emphatically stating that children are happier, healthier, and developmentally superior (they learn better, quicker, retain more, and are more relaxed) when they spend consistent time in nature. And everyone knows the the most formative years are the first ones. We’ve seen the strongest, most resilient children develop when consistently exposed to nature and strong mentoring from a young age. We integrate parents and siblings into the experience, with opening and closing circles, storytelling, and celebrations at important times of the year for our participants.

Tracking & Nature Club
Educational > After school program
We’re feeling thankful to have so much nature in our city! On the third Sunday of every month (roughly), the P.I.N.E. Tracking and Nature Club will be run throughout the parks system and local green spaces in Toronto, focused in a few main areas: High Park, Sunnyside Beach, and the Humber Valley. We’ll also make occasional trips further afield. The intent of the club is to provide space for those with an interest in: learning more about nature, wildlife, and tracking - how to help inspire nature connection in others - spending time outside with like minded community - We hope to open our eyes a little wider to the birds and wildlife that live in and amongst our urban environment. From foxes hunting through our backyards to deer passing unseen through the park corridors, animal tracking gives us great insight and awareness of our natural surroundings. Come on out, it’s a blast!Date : 2012-06-15 to 2012-06-17

The Art of Mentoring
Camp: Summer Camp > Educational
August 20-25, 2012 - Join us as the international Art of Mentoring movement continues and grows in Ontario in 2012! The Art of Mentoring is a week long immersion into a living culture of nature connection, community building, and self awareness. This week long workshop provides participants with inspiration, knowledge, and tools to create a greater depth of nature connection in all areas of your life and community. The course curriculum draws on approaches from modern education, ancient cultures, ecological wisdom, and principles observed in nature. It provides experiences and a framework that can be used in any facet of one’s life, work, or home environment. Guided by an international team of experienced facilitators, each day includes personal and group activities, focusing mainly on outdoor experiential opportunities including: the art of questioning - wildlife tracking - naturalist education - sensory awareness training - inspirational storytelling - singing - creative arts - exposure to wilderness living skills - discussion and reflection - throughout the week we build an intergenerational village, woven together by nature, music and artful mentoring.Date : 2012-08-20 to 2012-08-25

Coyote Pups - 4 to 8
Educational > Science
Our Coyote Pups are the best adventurers there are! This class is full to the brim with storytelling, tracking local wildlife, and finding the coolest goings on in the forest every week! We build the best forts and shelters, pretend to be the sneakiest animals out there, and howl at the birds when they catch us unaware! Arts, singing, drama, naturalist skills, survival skills, and community building with parents and younger siblings are all vital aspects of this program. We create a small culture steeped in nature connection. This is not a class to be missed! Programs provide outdoor and environmental experiences inspiring a connection to and knowledge of local natural spaces. Programs use Art of Mentoring techniques (referred to by best selling author Richard Louv as “Good Medicine for Nature Deficit Disorder) proven highly effective locally, and at wilderness schools throughout the U.S.A. Some of these include pioneering home school programs at Wilderness Awareness School in Washington State, and The Oyase Community School run by the Vermont Wilderness School.Date : Anytime
