At the heart of Montréal life for more than 300 years, the Château Ramezay has been conserving and presenting our heritage since 1895. Whether you are a Montrealer or a visitor passing through, whatever your age, the doors to history are open to you. Our Museum offers you the opportunity to relive history through its permanent exhibition and its garden, and it also organises many educational and cultural activities linked to the life of our community.

HOCHELAGA, VILLE-MARIE, AND MONTRÉAL - PERMANENT EXHIBITIONS. Come visit Hochelaga, Ville-Marie, and Montréal year-round. This permanent exhibition allows you to discover the history of Montréal, Québec, and Canada from Amerindian prehistory to the early 20th century. Here you will find unique artifacts, witnesses to the daily lives of our ancestors. As you travel through time, you will pass through the Salle de Nantes, an opulent room noted for its magnificent mahogany panels which date back to the 18th century.

LIFE IN MONTRÉAL IN THE 18TH CENTURY - PERMANENT EXHIBITIONS. This permanent exhibition is presented in the vaults of the Château. The solid, thick-walled structure dominates the space now, as it did 250 years ago. At that time, the city of Montréal was confined to what we now call Old Montreal. However, it was a city at the crossroads of important trade routes, and was influenced, throughout the years, by the Native People, the French, the British, and the Americans, among others. You are invited to experience the brand new multimedia circuit, which traces the evolution of the Château Ramezay since it was built in 1705. Claude de Ramezay, Gilles Hocquart, Benjamin Franklin and Lady Whitworth-Aylmer, among others, will tell all kinds of fascinating stories about this building, which is a jewel of Québec's heritage. The multimedia circuit is offered in six languages.

The Château Ramezay suggests a historical and fantastical setting in which to organise your child’s birthday. The three hour birthday event will appeal as much to the children... as to the parents! During the first two hours of the party, two animators dressed in historically themed costume will bring the 18th century back to life for the children through the following workshops: 18th century apparel : the children will dress up in 18th century attire Preparing brioche bread : the children will grate the cinnamon, churn the butter, knead the dough, etc… Quill pen writing workshop Once the workshops are over, le Château suggests that for the remaining hour you continue the party in a more intimate fashion. The conference room will then be put at your disposal. It’s now time to unwrap gifts and eat cake!
