Anniversary Abandonment
Robert (my husband just in case you get the wrong idea) and I rented a room. Yup, a hotel room in our own city without the kids. A night without kids?!? Yahoo!
At first we needed an occasion to justify the idea. After this weekend I can tell you that we’re looking forward to the next time we rent a room.. it will be just because we deserve it but this time the occasion was our 9 year anniversary.
2 kids later, many careers, house renovations and sleepless nights we decided that what we needed was …to sleep. We considered B&B’s but quickly realized that more than sleep we wanted to be adults having fun in our own city again…. kinda like a date night. So we paid a babysitter and invested in ourselves. (ps. do you know about SOS sitter for babysitter hook ups?)
It rained. We didn’t care.
We had mimosa’s with our lunch at our favorite cafe. We did not need caffeine as we were fully intending to nap!
We made rules. NO calling the kids. Late check out a must.
We were so giddy we even facebook’d our pictures of the day to day events. (aka to make our friends jealous)
We checked in to the Place D’armes Hotel in Old Montreal . We asked for a discount because we were residents after all…they agreed and even brought us chocolate dipped strawberries with a hand written anniversary note. Touch of class n’est pas? We were even upgraded to a junior suite (tip: always mention that you are there for a special occasion).
Milles Merci Place D’Armes Hotel!
We wore bathrobes for 24 hours; other than for dinner and at other times which I won’t write about (no pictures either!)
We went to Kitchen Gallerie Poisson for dinner…. oh my god it was amazing food!
We wanted to go out and party as you would on a date or explore the city but really…. we were tired AND we had an amazing room to enjoy. Isn’t that the point? When you visit a city you don’t enjoy the hotel as much as you do seeing the city but when it’s your own city the pressure of having to visit the city is off and you can spend the day in your bathrobe or in the bathtub – exactly what moms and dads need from time to time don’t you agree?
I am looking for great date ideas …please share!
