To Clip or Not to Clip…..
A coupon hunting frenzy has been spurred south of the border, following last year’s premiere of Extreme Couponing. The second season began this September and it has us wanting the scoop on Extreme Couponing for Canadians! We love our kids so much, but they are EXPENSIVE! Any way we can save money is a bonus!!!
Extreme couponing is much more profitable in the U.S. than it is in Canada. We just don’t have the abundance of coupons that they have. It is possible though to save, and save substantially.
Many manufacturers are using social networking to share deals with their customers. If there is a product you use, ‘’LIKE’’ the manufacturer on Facebook, and you will receive discounts regularly! Although Extreme Couponing in Canada is not as lucrative as it is in the U.S.; if you’re willing to invest the time and effort, you can see considerable savings when the cashier rings-up your bill! Here are 3 simple strategies to help you get started: 1. Collect any coupon you can find; 2. Organize your coupons in a file folder that you can take with you to the store; and 3. Set-up a special email address just for receiving couponing because you will be bombarded with spam.2
There are cost-saving alternatives to couponing that can also be very profitable. According to Tanya Du, founder of www.extremecouponingcanada.org, Rewards Programs are excellent way to save money. Pharmaprix’s (Shopper’s Drug Mart) Optimum Program is the best in Canada. Each week, Pharmaprix offers a different promotion that is either gift card or points based. On a purchase of $75, you could receive a gift card valued at $10, $15, $25 or $50!
Price matching is not only a way to save money but also time. As parents, we are always rushing! We are always on the go. Price matching allows for one stop shopping. Just make sure you are armed with the competitor’s flyer. Zellers and Walmart both price match.
Price adjusting is also a great cost-saving tool! When my youngest was born, we purchased a baby swing for $200. Two weeks later, the same swing was on sale 50% off. We took our receipt to the store, and they refunded the $100 plus tax into our bank account. ToysRus and Sears both price adjust as long as you have your receipt, and the advertisement confirming the item’s sale price.
By the way, did I mention the Scoop Deals? The Kid Scoop offers incredible discounts on amazing programs and activities for our kids. Investing in your kids’ happiness and development doesn’t have to put a financial strain on you!
