Montreal Fashion Moms Top 5 Fall Fashion Trends
So here is the scoop! Autumn is here and now is the time to start shopping for our new fall wardrobe. You no doubt already splurged on the latest fashion for yours kids when you went back-to-school shopping, but now that the kids are taken care of, it’s time for us moms to take care of ourselves. After all, a fabulous new dress or great new pair of shoes always brightens our day!
From the runways to your closet, here are our top 5 must have trends for this fall (in no particular order)
1. CAPES & PONCHOS
When shopping for fall, here in Montreal where it gets quite cold, some kind of jacket is always at the top of our shopping lists. A jacket or coat is a huge staple in your wardrobe. You wear it almost every day, on repeat so you have to make sure it is warm and practical but still fashionable. Besides the fab faux furs and great leather bombers that are generally on trend for this season, Capes and Ponchos are also a very popular choice.
2. POLKA DOTS
One of the hottest trends for this season is a classic polka dot print. These special spots have been seen all over the fall/winter runways by all the top designers like Marc Jacobs, Diane Von Furstenberg, Stella McCartney and many more. A nice polka dotted blouse and pencil skirt or pair of trousers can create the perfect look for work – trendy yet sophisticated. If you’re a stay at home mom and want to incorporate this trend into your home life, some fuzzy polka dotted slippers might be a fun morning pick-me-up.
3. BRIGHT PANTS
Looking for a trend that really makes a statement? Bright bold pants are in this fall. Let the pants speak for themselves by pairing them with a simple, neutral top. From trousers to jeans, you can pick any style pant paired with any color of the rainbow, and you will surely make a punch with your pants. A few trendy fall colors to choose from include shades of orange, yellow, blue, pink, purple and green.
4. VELVET
Another great trend for fall is velvet. Fall is the best time to really introduce great warm textures into your wardrobe, and this season, velvet is the go-to fabric. It’s soft and luxurious, and brings back a hint of the 70s, another ongoing trend this season. A velvet blazer or top would look fab, but if that’s giving you too many flashbacks, try it on a shoe or headband for a more minimal look.
5. MAXI SKIRTS
The maxi skirt is back this fall and everyone is going to great lengths to achieve this look. Maxi skirts are long and comfortable, and a nice feminine way to keep covered and warm when the weather starts to get colder. Perfectly paired with a chunky knit sweater, a crop top, a belt or a sleek blazer, this look is casual comfy and super practical, perfect for us moms on the go.

Joanna Turowetz and Yussie Amiri are two best friends and business partners from Montreal who share a passion for fashion and parenting. They started fashion blogging in 2008 with their fashion blog, Montreal Fashion Minds, but after entering the wonderful world of motherhood in 2010/2011, they are no longer sipping champagne and snapping photos of models on the runways…no, no, they are wiping drool, changing stinky diapers and cuddling their beautiful baby boys, and thus came their blog, Montreal Fashion Moms.
The goal with their blog is to prove that being fabulous doesn’t stop once you become a mom, it has only just begun.
